R. Dan and Co., Inc. applying patent for Dan De-Inking Flotation Cell For Paper Making Waste Paper Stock Preparation

The Dan De-Inking Flotation Cell is a newly invented equipment to apply for a grant of Philippine Patent with the Bureau of Patent (BOP) of the Intellectual Property Office (IPO) of the Philippines. Today, processing of pulp stock in the de-inking flotation for paper making is confronted with challenges: high investment cost, high production cost and reducing quality of pulp product due to deteriorating but increasing priced recycled waste papers. Dan De-Inking Flotation Cell has been developed to cope these challenges. This flotation cell for waste paper processing is capable of effectively removing printing inks and other floatable hydrophobic contaminants, i.e., stickies, wax, etc. from the stock fiber suspension. Fillers and coating particles can also be removed by this flotation. Efficiency in terms of attained stock brightness (relative to ink / other contaminants removal), is at par with other types of leading flotation cells now operating in the Paper Mills and sold in the market worldwide. This was proven in the actual test results conducted last March 2007. Attained brightness on a certain waste paper pulp stock was at 74 – 76%ISO. This is due to its diffusor that can produce a wide range of air bubbles: small and large bubbles. Very encouraging performance of this cell is its low operating cost. Actual test result showed a 43% power savings. This is because of the two-pump (high pressure and low pressure) diffuser system adopted in the cell. Added features of Dan De-Inking flotation Cell are: 1. low investment cost. Technology to make and materials needed are locally available. 2. safe and simple to operate 3. easy to expand its capacity. Continuing effort to promote the use of Dan De-Inking Flotation Cell in paper mill Waste Paper Stock Preparation in the Philippines and in the future in neighboring Asian countries is currently being developed by R. Dan and Co., Inc.. One system is under installation in one of the Tissue Paper Mills here in the Philippines.

R. Dan and Co. Inc. was tasked by United Pulp and Paper (UPPC), wholly owned subsidiary of Siam Cement Group, Thailand to increase the capacity of their Waste Paper 2 (WP2) line.

The improvements were the following:
• Install deflectors on existing pulper
• Rebuild Detrashing Equipment – Fiberizer F2-TS
• Remove Drum Sorter from coarse reject line to increase capacity and efficiency
• Install additional Combisorter tail screen

The benefits derived were less fiber loss and increased capacity of about 140 tons per day (TPD).

Needle or Softwood Unbleached Kraft Pulp (NUKP) Line Improvement

R. Dan and Co., Inc. (RDCI) was tasked by United Pulp and Paper (UPPC), wholly owned subsidiary of Siam Cement Group, Thailand to upgrade the existing softwood pulper to handle waste paper old corrugated box on a turnkey basis.

The following equipment were installed:
• Sorter for pulper flush-out
• HD Cleaner (D2CS)
• Disc Screen – Fiber sorter FS 1B
• Rejectsorter RS2B Tail Screen

The order to RDCI utilized used equipment, and instrumentation including piping, tanks, agitators, motors, etc.
The resulting capacity is 130 TPD at the end of the coarse screen section.

Manila, Philippines -- R. Dan and Co., Inc. recently underwent an external audit by Moody International, Philippines for its bid to re-certify its Quality Management System ‘s compliance to ISO 9001:2000 Standards.

Representatives from Moody International headed by Engr. Rolando Ortañez, their Country Manager, along with Ms. Elsa Purificacion (Scheme Manager), Engr. Narciso Panit, Ms. Elvira Lomadilla and Mr. Jayme Ignacio conducted the certification audit last April 3 and 4, 2008. The two days audit involved examination of the company’s policies, objectives and procedures continued adherence to the standards of ISO 9001:2000.


Macapagal Airport to Utilize Baggage Handling System

CLARK FREEPORT — The Clark International Airport Corporation (Ciac) signed a contract for the installation of a new baggage handling system at the sprawling Diosdado Macapagal International Airport (DMIA). Ciac president Victor Jose Luciano inked the contract with Raymond Dan, president of the R. Dan and Co., Inc., at Club Filipino in Manila.

On December 9, 2008, the former Kimberly Clark Paper Machine 1 (PM 1) restarted as PM 5 of Quanta Paper Corp. Mabalacat, Pampanga. With only the Yankee dryer and suction press from the former machine, an extensive rebuild was undertaken by R. Dan and Co. Inc. based on their “Eco Tissue Design”.


The following “Eco Tissue” features were added:

• Octopus CD profiler with integrated pulsation elimination tank
• Compact Felt Run
• White Water De-aeration System
• High Efficiency Hood
• Conformatic Cleaning/Creping Doctors
• Pope Reel
• Rockwell Sectional Drive
• ABB - DCS System
• Jaasch - QCG System
• Thermo – Compressor Steam and Condensate System
• Central lubrication system


The result was a machine which could run to 800 m/min., dry 43 Tons Per Day (TPD), run minimum of 14 GSM upt to maximum 40 GSM basis weight, using recycled fiber.
Currently, the machine runs economic to premium grades of toilet and facial tissues.
